NPVIC Status |
State UpdatesJanuary 20, 2024 - A lone Democrat, Rep Earle Banks, D-Jackson, has reintroduced the NPV scheme in the House as HB-407. The bill was referred to the Apportionment and Elections Committee. January 13, 2024 (Update) - No additional action has been taken on the NPV issue since the NPV bill was killed in early 2023. 2-01-2023 JACKSON - Again, GREAT NEWS from the Great STATE of Mississippi!! The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact scheme was introduced as HB-491 with 10 Democrat Sponsors. It was quickly killed in Committee 2-05-22 - JACKSON - GREAT NEWS!!! The House Rules Committee has KILLED the National Popular Vote bill in Mississippi! The SENATE has likewise killed the Senate version in Committee as of 2/02/2021. 1-21-22 - For his fourth attempt since 2018, Democrat State Rep Earle Banks, D-Jackson, has sponsored (HB-1263) as the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact scheme in the Mississippi House. It has been sent to the House Rules Committee. 3-08-2021 - Regrettably, a Pro-EC and Anti-NPVIC Bill, HB-1176, sponsored by Representative Becky Currie, has also now died in Committee. February 2021 - In February, BOTH the House Bill and the Senate Bill that would enable the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact scheme DIED in Committee! The Left's efforts in Mississippi to negate our Electoral College have ended for 2021. On January 8, 2021, Senator David Blount, D-29, introduced the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact scheme in the Senate. The Bill has been assigned to TWO (2) Senate Committees - the Elections Committee and to the Accountability, Efficiency, Transparency Committee. We expect a push, from the California-based National Popular Vote office, in Mississippi in 2021. They have hired a half-dozen highly-paid former Republican State lawmakers and 'consultants' for the express purpose of convincing Republicans that a national popular vote will help their Party specifically. With a Republican Governor and a solid Republican General Assembly, Mississippi is the type of Red State that the Left needs in order to reach their Collusion Threshold of 270 Electoral Votes to activate the NPVIC Compact. The National Republican Party stands strongly opposed to the NPVIC scheme in its Party Platform and Mississippi Republicans also have a good track record of following the Republican Party Platform. However, because of Mississippi's good Constitutional track record, it's strong appreciation for States Rights and its government make-up, we give Mississippi an 'Electoral College State rating and not likely to fall for the NPVIC scheme. Because the legislation is introduced, we HAD changed the status in Mississippi to "Low Risk". Because the Mississippi Legislature killed the NPVIC scheme, we have returned the State's status to it's rightful, sovereign and Constitutional Electoral College status! |

We SUPPORTED HB-1176 !
Sadly, the Bill has DIED in Committee.
We appreciate the efforts of Rep. Becky Currie, R-92nd District for Sponsoring this very important legislation! The Bill, unfortunately has DIED in Committee.
This proposed law would have basically prevent the State of Mississippi from releasing the results of any Statewide popular vote tallies for the offices of presidential Elector until after the Electoral College meets and casts Mississippi's Votes. This is to deny any other States that join the dangerous National Popular Vote Interstate Compact scheme the "national" popular vote tally that their Collusion Agreement requires, from having a "National" popular vote tally with which to decide for whom their State(s) will cast their Electoral Votes.
